I created these images a long time ago while learning 3d modeling. I always enjoyed the Scooby Doo episodes where the gang is creeping around an old abandoned circus or carnival. I wanted to recreate that in 3d the same time I learned modeling skills. I found a great circus tutorial on Digital Tutors at www.digitaltutors.com. If you're interested in this stuff then that's a GREAT place to start.
About a year later I took a couple of game development classes at Santa Monica College's Academy of Entertainment Technology. We learned game design in the Unreal Development Kit, aka UDK. Assets for the games can be created and easily be brought over from almost any 3D application, i.e. Maya, 3DS, Blender, etc... So I thought it would be fun to create a game based off my environment created combined with a story that I previously had come up with.
The game takes place in the 1940s, somewhere in great Britain. The hero's name is Ayden Knight. He and his sister get lost in the woods somehow and try to find their way back out. Unfortunately on the way back they come across some recently escaped inmates, dressed as clowns. The prisoners kidnap the sister, and knock Ayden out leaving him to die in the woods. When he awakes, he has to search for his sister by collecting clues she left behind.
His search leads him to the gates of the carnival where the actual gameplay begins. However it wont be so easy. He is bound to a wheelchair, from a battle he lost to polio. He cannot access many things because of this, so he will have to rely on the help of his trusty dog.
A tag team gameplay will emerge as they each switch in parts of the carnival. Only one of them will be able to access certain areas or levels due to their strengths and weaknesses.
During their search, it becomes obvious that the place is haunted. However, I wanted to have the spirits tell their stories, unfolding to history of the carnival. Ayden also realizes that not all the spirits are out to harm him. In fact, they want to help him save his sister. The REAL evil and danger will be the inmates. So here is a rough cut of an unfinished game that I dreamed up a couple of years ago. Enjoy :)
